Bluetooth Android problem

I haven´t connect to my android via blutooth for a long time. Yesterday I tried but only Chess for Android connects without any issue.

Neither Certabodroid nor White pan finds the board ( in my Android settings Raspberry is paired of course...otherwise chess for Android wouldn´t work).

On one of my Android devices (Android 11/Samsung) in White pawn app I can go to settings and Raspberry is listed in unknown devices. Then I choose "Certabo driver" but it say "connetion failed" after 1 sec. In my other device Android 12 /Huawei) the settings remains greyed so I have no possibility to look for Rasperry...

UPDATE: Chessdojo also connects very quickly but  as the pieces always makes problems it´s not usable.

Both do have Emui 12.0.0

On PC BT works.

Hello Julian

Certabodroid and Whitepawn are not supporting the BT connection, that works with ChessDojo, PgnMaster, Chess for Android and BearChess and Graham O'Neill driver on PC and our sw.

On phone (chess dojo) you may try to use a powerbank in case (if you are not yet doing) it can be power limitation of the phone.

Btw we are working on our native app for Android hopefully will have by summer will ping you for testing as soon as we have the beta version.

All the best

Thanks' a lot for your fast response......

Anyhow, it seems that some programs can recognize the pieces better than others (especially with Bt but noticeable on usb as well ). I never had problems with chess for android, but chess dojo is really not usable for me (with usb it is better than with Bt but not really as stable as chess for android with Bt) This issue is same on PC. It seems that some programs are more stable with reading the pieces than others.

White pawn is also very stable in recognizing the pieces...with usb of course.

Julian

Hm, I never had any problems with Chess Dojo with Bluetooth. Three different Android devices, two different boards with two BT dongles. Chess Dojo is always stable and has a fast and perfect piece recognition.

Hello Julian

When you use BT with power bank the BT will supply the board we noted sometime elseif the rating of power bank is enough in reality is not that what stated. The power bank step up voltage from 3.7 to 5 V with a converter and depending on quality of the converter apparently you get a pure DC 5V which is enough for battery charging and many device but you may have micro voltage drops so some specific device like pi + peripherals can be affected by transitory power drop you hardly note, really you do not need much power but the output voltage should be quite constant you may to try bit higher spec power bank and may help. This will not explain completely your problem but if the problem is the flickering which software can handle bit differently this will help in reducing it, as i think the main problem you are having with BT is that it is not properly transferring power to the board like when connected via usb.

All the best

you can also do a double check and try this:

disconnect the power bank and exclude it completely,  if you have a micro usb power supply (like a raspberry one) plug it into the other micro usb port, so the pi will get proper power for sure and see if you still have the problem if it goes, definitively is the power bank.

Pietro

It seems that the issue has something to do with the chess pieces I´m using. I intergrated the chips in the pieces so the chips are in contact with the wight. If I use chess dojo with chips only (without pieces) everything works as good as in chess for android.

So I think that some apps have issues with the reading of my pieces and others not. What makes me think this is, that always the same pieces do have problems...so probably it´s not the BT connection, but my pieces and as BT generally is not as stable as USB BT maybe is more sensitive in reding my pieces....

Julian

Problem solved.

Thanks Pietro. It is the Anker powerbank.

I plugged the Power from PC USB port (not very sensible when using Bt....) and now everything worked fine.

So I´m looking for a better powerbank.
