Certabo International Club (lichess) ladder competition survey

Hi, just posted this in the forum on the lichess team Certabo International Club webpage (https://lichess.org/forum/team-certabo-international-club/certabo-international-club-ladder-a-longitudinal-competition-format#1) :

Hi fellow Certabo eboard users.

To come back to my previous posted topic in this forum (which unfortunately yielded just one enthusiastic response, hoever meanwhile almost two years ago).

I am still open for organizing some form of a longitudinal classical competition for the CIC team members (which does not mean single day (Arena) events are ruled out, they could co-exist of course).

I am thinking of one of two "ladder" forms for this continuing classical competition
1. Either a ladder competition with irregular games in which participants are free to challenge a higher ranked player but with compensation for active participants over infrequently joining participants (e.g. each week not played you drop one place at the ladder, but this could for convenience be lowered to a one month threshold because of the small number of participants, so play at least one game per month or drop one place), this more or less conform the Saint Louis Chess Clubc Ladder (rules here: saintlouischessclub.org/events/weekly-tournaments/climb-chess-club-ladder )
2. Or a fixed interval competition e.g. one game every month in which players are paired using software (Sevilla - Keizer system jbfsoftware.com/wordpress/sevilla-features/ ), which is more or less the format local OTB clubs use on their weekly club event. Stronger players are then paired to stronger players and weaker to weaker. In this case a competition leader will do the "drawing" for each round and share the pairings in time in advance.

Personally I think (and guess) the first, more loose format (whenever you like to you challenge someone on the aldder ranked higher then you) is more fun and more suitable. The second one a bit more demanding on number fo participants (which will not be that high given the response two years ago).

Please let me know if you would like to participate in a CIC ladder competition for slightly longer time formats (30+30 or even 45+45). Post your reply in this topic.

Chess greetings,

Michiel

Hi Michiel,

It's too early for me to participate, but the first step has been taken. One Certabo board is on it's way to The Netherlands. So maybe in a year or two, when I have some more experience.

I hope the tournaments go well though, and I will follow the matches if I can.

Goku

Have a lot of fun with your nice Certabo eboard (you might consider buying an accompanying bag for storage). Good choice !

We had the same thought there :). The bag was ordered along with the board, and a DaVinci computer as well. Pietro was of great help to help me pick the accessories that were fit for my use.

Thanks also for your good wishes, I will most probably like it a lot. I do hope the computer-stuff works in one or two tries :).

Unfortunately at lichess there has not been a single response to the proposal.

For now there is lack of enthusiasm for such an initiative I conclude.

Still thanks for trying, it may be better at a later moment. Let's hope for the best!

Hello Michiel

Thank you very much for your effort and enthusiasm very appreciated else if did not get much feedback 🙁

Thanks again for idea good thing it is there and can check at later day.

All the best

Pietro

An addition, to whom it may concern / FYI:

I asked the moderators of the lichess4545.com leagues whether the use of eboards (via the Licenses board API, thus including the method that is used by the Certabo software to play online on the lichesss website) is permitted.
I was not sure and could not find it in the FAQs (they might add this later).

He answered and confirmed it is allowed:

You can use an e-board in the league. As a matter of fact we have multiple players doing that.

So if there are Certabo board owners that want to participate in e.g. the Lichess4545 team league or the so called Lonewolf individual league (with time formats of respectively 45+45 and 30+30) they can do so and find there an alternative place to play online against others in a league model (one game per week, with options of setting yourself unavailable for weeks in which you cannot play).

All information about these leagues can be found by browsing https://www.lichess4545.com/
