Certabo & Mac

Hello All,

I recently installed the Certabo software for MacOs on my MacBook Pro. It works great playing the computer but every time I click on the lichens.org button the application closes I have the following in terminal:

ygame 2.0.0.dev6 (SDL 2.0.10, python 3.7.6)

Hello from the pygame community. https://www.pygame.org/contribute.html

macOS 11 or later required !

zsh: abort      ./main

This is odd because I am running 11.1 (Big sur) on my MacBook. Has anyone else seen this error?

Additionally how do I connect to chess.com from the Mac?

Thank you,

Scott

Hi Scott

First wish you and all friends a great 2021!!

Ok this happens when you click on lichess button on main software? I think yes it's BigSur thing that very new OS we have not yet tested and it looks the PyGame need an update (we had to downgrade pygame to guarantee compatibility with Catalina but it may be solved by Apple with BigSur so we shall upgrade again).

We will double check and revert back to you. To play online on chess.com  you shall download this one and configure as per instruction video but i think you may get the same error with that too.

Also you find the online software for Machere http://www.certabo.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Certabo_online_MacOS_4.0.zip and video instruction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2B0PtFBR2Q&feature=youtu.be

In the meantime we released the 3.7 version for Mac too so is aligned to latest 3.7 on DaVinci and PC there are quite bit of improvements and you can run realtime analysis. https://www.certabo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Certabo%20Chess%203.7_Mac.zip You can also check with this last one if still get the error on BigSur we will update and fix  as soon as we double check one of this latest system

All the best

Pietro

Hello Pietro,

Happy new year to you and your family.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I tried the version 3.7 but got the same error so as you suggested above its a New OS and apple have most probably made changes.

Thank you again for the quick response I will use the Davinci comp to play online which works brilliantly!

Hi Scott and guys

We recompiled the online sofware 4.0 for BigSur so now should be ok. It will actually require you to install python 3.9 which you will be prompted to do, here the link to download https://www.certabo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Certabo_Online_4.0_BigSur.zip it shall work on Bigsur and backward systems too we till to HighSierra tested.

Btw now Apple is abandoning also Intel CPU toward Apple Silicon which is different architecture which looks quite promising (they introduced the first one in Nov. 20) so we will have software optimised for new CPU as well. We may have two different distro one for Intel based Mac and other for Apple Silicon ones. Anyhow that specific one should work on both.

All the best

Pietro

Thanks Pietro,

I will download this tonight and test it out.

Thank you,
Scott

Hello Pietro,

I downloaded the software and ran it last night it definitely runs and brings up the websites but I could not actually play a game. I received errors such as "Fix Pieces" "reset pieces" etc.. I rebooted the Mac opened the Certabo 3.7 software recalibrated the board and pieces and successfully played a game against the computer.

I tried the online software again and again received the same messages. I will try again tonight but do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott

Hello Scott

Ok looks all ok then you get Reset pieces at beginning only this means all the pieces are not in starting position. Remember the default white side is bottom usb on right so by default white goes always there either you play with white or black ( so check the flip side when play with black is not activated before launching the website). Fix pieces appears if pieces are not in expected location, please make sure that the remote board is visible in the window and the game tab is selected. I assume you already made the few account settings on you account on DaVinci bo no need to check that.

Let us know

All the best

Pietro

Hello Pietro,

It was all my fault I had not set lichess preferences for "Input moves with Keyboard" to yes. I made this change and it works perfectly. I have not checked chess.com yet but I expect it will be a similar issue. I will let know once I have checked chess.com as well.

Thanks Again,

Scott

Hey Pietro,

As I suspected it was all my fault settings on lichens and chess.com were not correct which was causing the issues with the board. Once I set these correctly everything worked well.

Thank you,

Scott
