Checkers for Android supports Certabo

Although the Certabo electronic boards are mainly intended for chess, the flexibility of the identifying chips makes them suitable for 8x8 checkers as well (draughts, or American checkers, with slightly different rules from e.g. 10x10 international checkers). Therefore, I am planning to add support for Certabo boards in Checkers for Android as well. The 34 identifying chips can be used for the 24 regular pieces and 10 kings for promotion (using special purpose pieces avoids stacking the regular pieces). A 3D printed set can be used for this purpose (courtesy my brother-in-law Gerard Harbers for making sets for me).

The general idea is illustrated with this picture. Please let me know if you like this upcoming support!

Hello Aart

Yep looks very nice too! And think also very funny and interesting actually there quite old school of draughts in Italy.

Thank for your continous support!

Pietro

Looks great - do you have a separate set of ID chips for your chess and draughts peices?

Yes that is the plan. I am waiting for a new set to arrive from Pietro, and will post more pictures when the set is done. I guess, in theory, one could switch the chips back and forth between piece sets, but I am not sure if the stickiness of the glue will last that way.

The chips arrived! Together with custom-made checker pieces (courtesy Gerard Harbers) , Checkers for Android is ready to play!

What do you think?

Custom-made Checkers for Android Pieces

They look nice and very creative! What about putting the stl on your blog with instruction so people can download and print eventually.

Normally if you print or have custom made one the little interference is enough to keep in position very firmly without attaching at all. Actually  you do need a small indentation to put a little leverage like screwdriver and you can pull it off and change.  The tape is quite strong 3m once attached you can pull them off but need to use glue to attach again

The STL files are now available at http://www.aartbik.com/android_certabo.php

I just posted a brief instructional video on navigating the menus of Checkers for Android and connecting the application with the Certabo electronic board on YouTube.

Thanks Pietro!

Ingo Fränzel just emailed me these pictures of his eboard using the newly added feature in Checkers for Android. This checkers set looks lovely. Thanks for sharing, Ingo!
