Playing from a position using Messchess

Hi all,

 

I have been enjoying playing against the ROMs using Messchess, however I can only play from the initial starting position. Is there any way to set up a position on the board and play from that point?

Hello Cameron

As far as we are aware that is not possible, as the emulation of the ROM just allow to start from staring position and we had to disable the play from position.

If some specific ROM allows to set a position it may be possible to check we shall forward question to Franz Huber  but I'm not sure we can exchange a Fen string with the emulator.

Maybe Bryan who has lot of experience with that emulator can add some info.

Hi Cameron,

the emulations of the messproject are not typical UCI engines. So there are a lot of features you can only use if you run the emulations directly. In this case you can move in the original menu of the chess computer, but you don't have a certabo connection.

If you use the Emulations as an UCI Engine like the Certabosoftware or other GUIs, you can setup th strength and something else and play from a starting point. That is the only way to play old emulations with an external board.

For position analytics it is better to use a normal strong engine like stockfish.
