Reversi for Android supports Certabo

Just like its cousins chess and checkers, Reversi for Android now also supports the Certabo electronic board! One has to be creative with the pieces (64 chips for white pieces and 64 chips for black pieces; possibly individual sets or, as with most Reversi board, pieces that can "flip" with one identifying chip on each side), but after that, the board is ready to play!

Below you see the prototype running using my checkers set (reversi sets are in the making!).

I just posted a brief instructional video on how to use Reversi for Android with a Certabo electronic board for actual over-the-board play! Many thanks to Pietro for providing the beautiful featured board and sufficient identifying chips to make this possible. I hope to see many other creative Reversi boards (or checkers or chess of course) soon!

Aart, I just orderd two set of chips from Pietro and try to test Reversi. Is there any special that the peaceflip will detected.

My idea was to print 2 halfstones (black and white and put the chip inside. In the end I hope to got 64 for of this peaces. I'm not sure if the flip will be detected.

Hi Dirk,

Please note that for Reversi you will need 128 chips, and put two chips in each piece, one for the white side and one for the black side. I tried several shielding materials to avoid interference, but in the end distance was the only thing that really worked (you can see the end result around 6:32 in this video).

Hi Aart,

thx.. are this peaces printed or what was the base?
what's about a software solution that only the color of a peace would be change if it lost the RFID connection and get it back.
If I take care to do the right things it must be possible to play with only 64 chips ?
I think also about to look for 128 backgammon peaces, but changing the colors in a game needs to much time... flip is the only way hmmm...

The pieces I used are 3-D printed stones, one side white and one side black, with place for a chip in both of them, and some material in between to create some distance between the chips. Having some software solution on looking at dynamic changes and interpreting them as flips could work, but would be very, very, sensitive to glitches on the Certabo board (since a dropped signal could mean several things now). I prefer the 128 chip solution, even though indeed it seems a bit excessive. It would be nice if one chip had two identifying sides built-in 😉

Oki, I will made some test's with my chips and look arround stones. If I find a solution,  Pietro could ship some more ships soon...

Hi Aart,

I print some peaces for test but found now 20mm backgammon peaces. So now I'm wait for my last order of chips. There are on the  way. And I need another set to get full 128.
How ist the setup process for the black and white peaces?

I hope to show my results in the next weeks.

@pietro please send me anaother proforma for one 20mm chipset.

Hi All,

my reversi project is on a good way. THX Pietro for your great support !!!
First I will show you my printing object of a stone. This will work with a 20mm chip.
The stone is designed that you can put in the chip without to glue it. You put it in and glue only the cap. Next is to print another one in black and glue the cap again. In the end you can now glue the wihte and black stone togehter. The distance is enough that it works without a extra distacnce object without problem.
The stl is attached.  Biggest Problem is the time you need to print 128 stones, The good thing it, that the certabo chip could be reused at any time.

Next step is to use 20mm backgammon stones , I found at amazon to speedup the process.

If any one have enough time for 3D printing, go ahead to use my stl file.
