Connect usb speakers to Davinci Extreme?

Hello,

Can I get sound from my DaVinci Extreme if I were to buy usb speakers for it? I like the little tone announcing when the engines moves when playing on my PC and would like to hear the same from the DaVinci when playing away from my PC.

Also, why do the directions suggest storing the board vertically when not in use?

Thanks, I just got my Fazio Ebony Black chess board yesterday and I am loving it!

Hi "cpuchess",

first congratulation to this nice Fazio board.

I also like the sound while moving the pieces and I put a small speaker to the 3.5 jack socket. It works fine. So I think, an usb speaker should work too.

By the way: the original certabo move sounds for me a little bit like "on the rail station" or "opening the door to the hairdresser" 😉 - sorry Pietro 😉

so I changed the file to the move sound from another software and now its more a "wooden click", but "de gustibus non est disputandum" 😉

Greetings Tobias

Cool, thanks for the info

Hi Cpuchess

Glad you like the board!

Yes pi  does not have any loudspeaker but you can stick one in the jack as Tobias was suggesting. Since the power output from the jack is anyhow limited we found there was some specific one for that purpouse which are so called "pillow speaker" which optimise the sound output.

If you google on amazon you find many and the are quite inexpesive too. Yes in sounds directory you can just put any sound just rename move.wav and yes Tobias you are right and you know Certabo is latin word too 🙂 eh eh.

For the other question normally if you do not use the board for some time it advisable to store in vertical position because that way it can have even exposition to air so the moisture level can be even around the whole board better if in bag where it will keep quite uniform level of moisture.

All the best

Pietro

I think we need to be careful what usb speaker is plugged in because I remembered I already had one that I received for free when I bought a new tv. When I plugged the usb cable in it turned all the lights of my board on. I was worried that it was pulling a lot of power that could damage either my Davinci or the board so I unplugged it. I have since ordered a small portable speaker that I can connect with the 3.5mm jack.
