Drivers for Arena, LucasChess and Shredder

PreviousPage 3 of 4Next

Did you already have Win 10 Pro, or did you upgrade or use the RDP approach?

I was curious so I loaded the TeamViewer app on my phone and while my Certabo Bluetooth module was starting I connected it to my PC. It takes a bit of getting used to controlling the PC from the phone as the relative screen sizes are so different but it does work quite well. I'm glad you raised this as a discussion as I would never have tried it otherwise!

I´m using Win 10 pro. I tried the remote connection with the board connected directly to the PC and with a Huawei P20 pro, as I don´t have the Bluetooth module yet. But I ordered it yesterday, so in some days I will see how it works with the Certabo module.
I also tried with Huawei  Mediapad M5 without any problems. Of course, due to screen size this is much easier. But with correct settings on the phone it´s quite ok. If everything works that fine with bluetooth module, I will write more detailed, so that everyone who is interested in can copy.

Yea, that´s the solution to go. I just tried Microsoft remote desktop app with Shredder and it´s so fast, that it feels like playing directly with the PC. Wonderful! And it´s much cheaper than buying a Windows Tablet.

And: Yes, Pietro is very busy in developing new "things".

Hi Julian Graham

Yep we have been developing some new things 🙂 so sorry for bit in the run. Anyhow wanted to jump in to give a short update about some concernings on Certabodroid which i shared with some mails.

Honestly since we had to adpat to droidfish, which is really great open application,  but somehow not intended to interface to boards and we had to compromise some functionalities. Modification or implementation is not straight forward as unlike the other platforms it works with different logics of piece recording.

We have now started to bring our standard software to android platform so they will natively support the boards and will have same features functions of other platform being the software the same running cross platforms. Recently the python platform we use for PC, Unix Mac Pi etc. for chess has been ported to android and works quite well, so you should find more or less all the functions of other platform we still need some time for that but that is the path we are following in parallel with Certabodrod development so can have three apps including Chess for Android.

Specifically for Certabodroid we are now addressing the take back (which agree is big missing) and support for BT so shall have some news soon as well on that too (supposed to be already done we just did not have chance to complete)

And as anticipated we have been bit busy developing a new chess engine i post a picture of new engine we will have dedicated website running for that uciavatar.org

Will open a specific post for this item as we would send the engine have some trials so you can test it out.

More info to follow

Now, I can confirm, that remote Desktop works fine, but unfortunately (...of course) only with Bluetooth limitation.

My dream would be, to simply use the board anywhere in my house, where I can receive Wlan and to connect to the PC via remote desktop (Microsoft) via the tablet and the Bluetooth module. This works fine now, but unfortunately only within the limited Bluetooth range (only in the same room...).It would be perfect if you could use the entire WLan range with the module....I really don´t know if this is technically possible.
Julian
UPDATE: I just saw, that I´m not up to date... my Bluetoothdongle is 4.0. I ordered a 5.0 now and will see if the transmission now works better.
With 5.0, 20m should work, even with walls between.......will see.

After numerous attempts I can say the following:It makes no difference whether you use a 5.0 or a 4.0 dongle. The connection is reliable only in the same room. At times of the day when there are fewer other Bluetooth devices in the vicinity, the connection can also work in the next room, but unfortunately this is a matter of luck and therefore not really recommended.
To Graham:
Your driver does not work with my 5.0 dongle. With the 4.0 dongle, the connection works exactly the same as with Certabo or Bearchess. So I assume there is a problem somewhere.

The best solution would be to connect to the Certabo module with WiFi instead of Bluetooth ( although it is called a bluetooth module...). Since I think it's a Pi Zero, it should actually be possible from the module. As far as I know, the Zero also has WiFi. However, I have no idea whether this is also possible based on the program layout ...

Julian

Thank´s Graham, I just installed your updated driver. Yes, Setting up a position now is rally comfortable. I especially like your idea how to show the program, which colour moves. ....no extra checkbox, just the last king on board......

Hi Julian,

Well, that took me a lot longer than I'd expected!!

I found a bug in the Linux driver that might stop you connecting so my new version has fixed that. But I don't think you are using Linux.

For Windows, I couldn't see anything wrong but I have rewritten my Bluetooth connection code anyway and think it should be more reliable now. Of course, being BT, it might still need more than one attempt to connect but it should be better. I have bought myself a BT 5.0 dongle (TP-Link UB500) and it works with that, although it did at first have a problem in pairing with the board. But in case there are still problems I have also updated my COM Ports program to also search for BT devices. If my new version doesn't work try running that to see if it can detect your board or not.

I'm not sure if the Certabo BT module uses BT5 though, so maybe that explains why you didn't get any extra range with your new dongle?

Thanks for your patience!

https://goneill.co.nz/chess.php

I have just released a new version of my driver for use in Arena (and so also CB-EMU which has Arena), Shredder and LucasChess:

https://goneill.co.nz/chess.php

The new version is already included in LucasChess 1.29a. The main change is that now the position set up works in all three of the GUIs and you can access my driver's setup mode by just removing both kings rather than having to take off all of the pieces.

So, in the GUI "Setup Position" screen remove both kings from the board and my driver will go into set up mode. You can then put the pieces where you want them before replacing both kings. The last king to be replaced identifies which side moves next. In Arena you can also do this during a game provided you don't change which side moves next.

There are also quite a lot of internal code changes where I have tidied things up a bit, but nothing that should change how the driver works (I hope!).

Many thanks for the driver Graham  - I bought a copy of Shredder 13 so as to be able to use it with a Certabo board. Hopefully someday there will be support for Certabo in Hiarcs and Chessbase progams too ...

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your wonderful work! May I ask you a question? Somehow I have some strange behavior with my board, and I’m unable to use the board with my pc.

When I initialize the board, and this goes for LucasChess as well as Shredder, I get all sorts of ghost pieces on the board. See attached picture. I’m not able to initialize the board successfully. Any idea how I can solve this?

My board works flawless with the Certabo software.

Thanks,

Regards,

Reint.
